Café & Yoga Studio · Indiranagar, Bengaluru
PROJECT

Overview

Set on the fourth floor of a building in Indiranagar, Bangalore, this project began as an open, shed-like terrace surrounded by mature treetops. We were invited to transform this raw space into a café and yoga studio — balancing activity and stillness within a single, open volume while responding to the site's light, elevation, and uninterrupted greenery.

Owner's Notes

The client envisioned a space inspired by the raw, tactile language of Sri Lankan architecture, interpreted through Indian materials. The intent was to create an environment that feels calm yet energising, reflecting her philosophy of vegan, nourishing food — where the space carries the same sense of honesty, balance, and wholesomeness as the menu.

Direction

The design focused on preserving and amplifying the site. In a dense urban context, the uninterrupted view of treetops became central. Openings were positioned to frame only the canopy and sky, ensuring a constant connection to nature. The space was kept largely wall-free, allowing light and movement to flow seamlessly across functions. This openness extends to the café experience, where visibility of process and ingredients reinforces transparency. The architecture recedes — allowing nature, light, and individual experience to take precedence.

Materials

The palette was limited to three primary materials and one defining highlight. Concrete flooring and lime-washed walls establish a raw, tactile base, while teakwood furniture acts as a cultural bridge between Sri Lanka and India — introducing warmth and familiarity. A terrazzo counter, using marble aggregates rooted in Indian homes, anchors the space. Subtle copper inlay detailing ties the palette back to the identity of Copper and Cloves.

Styling & Lighting

The ambience is soft and unobtrusive, designed to support rather than dominate. All lighting is concealed, eliminating harsh illumination and allowing the space to remain visually quiet — especially in the evenings, when the treetops and night sky remain the primary focus. Greenery extends the external landscape inward, while restrained layers of jute and copper add warmth and tactility. The client's ingredients, soaks, and ferments are integrated into the styling — making her craft visible and reinforcing a sense of honesty and connection to the food.
