Overview

Project 466 is a 900 sq. ft. home for a young couple designing their first space together. The brief was to create a calm, minimal, and slightly playful home, kept intentionally open to evolve over time. The space acts as a canvas, allowing the couple to gradually layer in memories and objects from their travels.

Owner's Notes

The home was envisioned as light-filled, intimate, and flexible. Maximizing natural light was essential, shaping an open layout where spaces flow into one another. The home is designed primarily for the couple, while accommodating informal gatherings — from meals and games to shared cooking.

Bedrooms were to remain compact and efficient, with essential storage. The couple also wanted a contemporary interpretation of the puja, integrated thoughtfully without becoming a focal point.

Direction

The design emphasizes continuity and adaptability. A single engineered wooden flooring runs across the home, reducing visual breaks and enhancing openness. The living space is kept low and flexible, anchored by a large table and a TV unit designed with shelves and niches, allowing the home to evolve through collected objects.

Materials

The palette is limited and cohesive, ensuring a seamless transition across spaces. The kitchen uses wood-finished cabinetry with tonal variation, while fluted glass introduces lightness within storage. Kit Kat tiles add texture, and concrete-finish tile flooring is juxtaposed with the wooden flooring, creating a clear distinction between the functional kitchen and the more relaxed living areas.

Styling & Lighting

Lighting is designed along the periphery, keeping the centre open. A suspended dining light creates a focused zone, while the rest of the space remains softly lit.

Styling prioritizes flexibility over added decor, with all furniture custom-designed to act as the primary visual layer. This includes a statement sofa, metal and leather mixed chairs, wooden nesting tables, and a large black dining table, each element functioning as both utility and decoration.

Built elements and materials carry the visual weight, with glass surfaces enhancing light flow. The space is intentionally left open for gradual personalization, allowing it to evolve with the couple over time.
